Contact paper is used for matte finished basses. It will provide a non-porous surface for Thumb Fin to attach to. Contact Paper can be removed without leaving residue on the surface.
Easy to use! Just peel off the backing and place where you want on the bass!
I have tested it on a 1/100 Ball Family Reserve bass, so I trust that it doesn't damage the surface.

I accidently tossed one of the two pieces of contact paper I ordered, coz it looked like the backing of the other one I used. Pretty bummed.
If you buy one, I highly suggest keeping it in a larger envelop until you apply it to your instrument.
This is a helpful piece of oval tape for a matte finish. The Thumbfin just wouldn’t stay on without this. You could use a piece of packing tape if you want to save a few bucks.
Don't be like me, I didn't read the website correctly. I have an ash bodied bass, and the Thumb Fin wouldn't adhere to the body. Thumb Fin sent to me some contact paper and the Thumb Fin now works a dream. My friend who is a professional bass player was also super impressed.
Therefore if you have an ash/wood bodied bass order contact paper when you order you Thumb Fin.
It is not possible to use the plungers to stick to a matte surface , so the company has a small piece of contact paper they provide that can allow you to stick your Thumb Fin to a matte surface. I trimmed the piece of contact paper so that it would look more attractive and there wouldn't be a bunch of contact paper sticking out around the sides. Worked well. I am very happy and I have these on three of my bass guitars

I like that I didn’t have to drill holes or remove screws, heck all you to to do is set it in position and done. Bought the higher fin to give it a try think I’m going back for the set of three. It holds tight.
I thought this was a little pricey but really didn’t want to permanently install anything on either my mustang or my stingray so I opted to give this a shot. It works GREAT. It stays in place and does not slide or “migrate”. Really pleased with this.
Thumb Fin is a great add-on to my Gretsch Bass. It keeps my thumb off the E string and now my fingers do the plucking! Recommended by Danny Sapko
Love my fins! I got these for two U-bass. Makes playing a lot for fun and comfortable. Wonderful design. Acoustic-electric U-bass definitely needs the contact paper.

Had an issue initially the suction cups sliding on the pickguard, but got my pressure sorted out and working great now... just what I needed.
